Monitor displays "out of range" message at startup and stops loading. Power down and then back on, all is normal. Out of range of what?? Need help on this one. Thanks

It means you are trying to load a resolution at a refresh rate that your monitor cannot support. Happens a lot with a good video card and cheap (or limited) monitor combo.
Just be glad it is recovering on the next boot!

Be thankful you're even getting that message. Older and/or cheaper monitors won't give such a message, instead they will just attempt to run at a resolution/refresh rate that they are not capable of, often causing physical damage to the monitor.
If, instead of wondering what refresh rate Windoze is going to choose for you today, you'd like to take control of your own hardware, then this handy little utility is a must have:
HZ Tool - The Ultimate Refreshrate Customizer! (http://home2.sbbs2.com/doxx/)
...and it's even freeware.

OOH,
I had that happen once. The monitor sounds like a turbine spinning up and sizzles for a bit, then a sound like a twig breaking... I wonder if those fumes were posionous... Scared the hell out of my roommate http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
