Computer that was working fine is now giving me a message at boot up.

During the boot up sequence it states "KEYBOARD LOCKED. UNLOCK KEY. There is no key to unlock and this suddenly appeared on the computer.

Because this occurs during the boot process, the computer cannot get past this screen even when putting a startup disk in the floppy drive.

Any suggestions?

has any one been playing inside your case ?
if so check the jumpers for the lock and see if some one jumpered it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
if not try resetting the bios ?

Thanks Scotter.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried everything. I just took everything off the m/b and placed it in another case and it works fine.

So it seems that it is something on the motherboard. Of course I don't have the book for the board so this makes it very hard to troubleshoot. I tried clearing the CMOS but nothing. There are very few jumpers on the board. I'll try to get a book on the motherboard and go from there.

The motherboard is a QDI-P5I430V/250 Explorer II, BIOS V2.0. If you come across any info, it would be appreciated.

Try a different key board, could be bad. Make sure it's not disabled in the cmos. Boards have a capacitor or ? that acts like a fuse in case of a KB short, this could have blown out.

Thanks Elroy.

I will check that. Good suggestion.

You didnt say what board you have, but I has a similar, embarassing, problem on my BE6. I had mistaken one of the keylock pins for something else...I misread the diagram, and had it vertical instead of horizontal or something...I think I put the HDD LED in where Keylock was supposed to go. I too dont have a keylock on my case, Pull all the wires on those headers, and put the back in, use the manual, take your time, took me a couple time to figure out what had happened http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The only time I got this message was when the keylock on the case itself was in the locked position. We had some delievered with them on. We used the key to unlock it and it was fine.

But you said that you have no keylock. As was mentioned, you may have wires switched. Try removing them and see if it helps.

Nixona,

Thanks for the suggestion. It's been a puzzling problem. I appreciate the suggestions.

Nathan,

You're right. I pulled everything out of the case, tried new case and still the same thing. I'm ready to kiss my money good-bye on this one. Don't have the patience anymore for puzzling problems. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still going to work on it.
