Does anyone know of a direct cable connection program that is more reliable/fast/not as picky as the one built into windows??

What do you mean by direct cable connection? Are you looking to share an Internet connection with other PCs on a home Lan?

Most of them are easier to share files and set up then windows. Like laplink. But I got rid of all of that and went to a 10bt network alot faster and easier.
