Well, i've tried to burn a VCD(Video CD) and it did fine. I've played it on my computer and everything went well. But when I use it on my DVD player, which is compatible with VCDs, it couldn't find any tracks or anything. It wouldn't play!!

Does anyone know how to burn it properly?
Thanks for help!

Just FYI, I've had the same problem after a friend burned a VCD for me that plays normally on a computer. DVD player can't find a track either. Sorry I'm no help, but you're not alone.

Is a VCD different than a cdr? I have never heard of a VCD. I have only copied videos to cdrs. Maybe I have heard of them. I need to think about this. Dam kid has colic driving me nuts wish the wife would get home.

Ahh! It may be able to read VCD's but can it read CDR's? Is this a home DVD player or a PC one? What is the model/brand. When I upgraded my home DVD player I wanted one that played CDR's so I could listen to those great CD's http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif But mine dosen't read VCD's what a bummer. My last one read VCD's but not CDR's man what a crock. I guess I have to wait till TPM really comes out to DVD if it ever does http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Jad-

the difference between the 2 are this. A VCD is just a CD that has video on it. They are big in Asia. They are very similar to Laserdisks but not as good of quality. The quality is that of a vcr tape. A cdr is well a cd that you can write to. If you write a VCD to a cdr you have a CDR of a VCD http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You might find your answers from either one of these websites.

Some home DVD Players will not read CDR's. While I have only based this on experimentation, I found that the colour of the CDR may have something to do with it. I have a Panasonic home DVD Player and it has only read Silver CDRW's(Audio only). I am not sure if it is because of the colour or if CDRW's initially write to a different sector of the CD which the player can pick up?

I know that Hitachi's new home DVD Players can read almost any brand of CDR's (regardless of colour).

Hope this helps,

I read somewhere, don't recall the website, that it has to do with the reflectivity of cdr's being different from commercially pressed discs; some early cd drives have problems with cd-rw's for the same reason. The whole thing is complicated by the fact that some dvd players don't read the vcd format at all...I suppose there's some trial and error involved.

Jad- what do you mean you don't know if there is a difference? A VCD is different from an audio cd just because it is video instead of audio that is the only difference.
And right some older players cd or dvd could read certain color of cdr's but any more it is hard to find a cd or dvd drive that won't read them. But some players don't read vcd. Most of the dvd players that have been around a while can. While brands like Zenith who started out doing DIVX haven't quite gotten therer yet. Panasonic can. Samsung, toshiba can. Pioneer can. and so on.

Jad, it's true vcds are readable in windows as a data cd. I think the distinction is that they have to have a unique folder structure with directory, indexing etc information and sometimes a startup menu screen, for the home vcd player to read - if you ever get your hands on a vcd and put it in your cd drive you'll see what I mean. So just dropping an mpeg onto a cdr doesn't make it a vcd readable by a vcd player. In fact I think some cd burning software have a mode to create a vcd format cdr.

Well what I meant was it was not clear that a cdr and VCD are the same type of disk, untill I read your post BC. Just a different format, right? Such as what I have made with Adaptecs easy cd creator 4. Which makes VCD's. So useing this format I can use my cdr in a dvd( that can play vcd's) or vcd player, correct?
Or am I still confused?
I just went to the second link mntsnow had and it explained it very well. So all it is is a cdr with a mpeg-1 format recorded in mode2 like an audio cd.
Mtnsnow is the man!
Thanks again mtnsnow
