is it possible to access a registry backup on the HD if the emergency startup disk is needed to boot? win98

Yep it sure is. At the c:\ prompt, type
regedit /?

It will list the options/switches and syntax you can use to restore, compare, export, import, etc.

There are probably other ways to accomplish this, but if your PC is totally hosed or something, this should work.

At the C:\ PROMT type C:\SCANREG When it is done reveiw the backups available then select the one you want.

good thing to do! i just brought the wrath of god on my registry and and got rid of blue screens.

where are the backups stored??

i just used 3 different reg cleaners and that is how i cleaned house....

deep_sky, what cleaners did you use? I just went in manually and deleted, but since I dont know what it all does, well you know... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I put my backup on the desktop.
