What is the EXACT I/O fault error? More Info would be mighty helpful http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

ps. start off with double checking for system resource conflicts in the device manager. Check cabling and jumper settings too.

I have some sketch information. I previously failed to mention that this computer is a family members.
OS Win95
I/O Fault address 2F8, the address is in question for my brother does not remember the exact address.
Fault appears in DOS mode, never makes it to WIN95.
Works when in "Safe" Mode.
Cd Rom - Creative Labs, MN?

It sure sounds like a system resource CONFLICT problem. What new hardware was recently installed or reinabled? You might need to disable 1 of the com ports in the bios and then reboot and see if you are able to get back into windows after it reshuffles the resources.

Please list the FULL list of hardware in your system..IE Vidcard, sound, NIC, SCSI, USB ect ect.

I agree with Mntsnow,It is definatly a resource problem. But just one other thing to check first :
Make sure that the new cd rom is not trying to run as a slave or something screwy like that . That shoulden't cause an I/O conflict but windows is a funny little hamster.
After that try removing an unused com port ,or remove another peice of pci hardware and see if the cd rom will settle in then replace the card you took out and hope that it will then settle in as well.
Good luck.
This may help a bit if you are unsure:

I will have to get back to you later on these things.
The only thing installed was the new Cd ROM which replaced the old one.

Just to add another suggestion here...
You say that it works in safe mode..
when in safe mode did you check in the device manager to see if more than one cd rom drive is listed (ie. multiple entries)? if there are, try deleting all of the cd rom drives listed and restart and let windows re detect it..maybe the old drive wasnt fully uninstalled before the new one was added and that could be the cause of conflict....
