Sudden restart using the modem

I'm running a PIII-450 with 128MB of memory,
the machine is about 6 months old, using a 56K winmodem (LHV) I think that's Lucent, and I guess the whole machine shuts down and then restarts while the modem is trying to connect to the net. I know there is a conflict in there somewhere but I need help finding it.

I had an almost identical problem when my (formerly mine) winmodem was in the PCI slot right next to the AGP video card. D@^^n straight there was a conflict!

Hi there,
I too have a Lucent WinModem and have had a similar problem. To solve it I downloaded the latest drivers for my chipset (VIA). These drivers then sorted my IRQ steering and BIOS calls. Ever since my modem has been working fine, (or as good as you could expect from a Winmodem!!!)
