I have sound but when I insert a cd there is no sound through the speakers...but if I plug in a set of headphones I can listen..any suggestions??

you dont have your Cd audio cable connected, or its broken.
its a gray small cable.
there sould be 3 cables coming out from your cd. the ide (white and big) the electric and the audio

IF your cd audio cable is installed correctly, you could also simply have it muted in the sound card's equalizer.
