Hi,
It's my understanding that Adobe Writer is used to edit .pdf files. My question is, other than Adobe Writer, is there any other software that can also edit .pdf files? OR if not, are there any packages that Adobe offers that come with Adobe Writer as part of the package?
Thanks :)

The Pro version is not really necessary. Adobe Acrobat Standard (not Reader) will do most everything but if you don't want to spend a lot of money, Foxit PDF Editor (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/pe_intro.php) ($50) works rather well. Keep in mind that not all PDFs are easily edited, even if you are using the same program that created it. It depends a lot on how much security has been applied to the document.
Sometimes it is just a lot easier to strip out the text and images with an OCR type program like Abbyy PDF Transformer Pro or Scan to Office (http://www.abbyy.com/products/) and then convert them back to PDF with any of several free PDF creators like Primo PDF (http://www.download.com/PrimoPDF/3000-10743_4-10264577.html) .
The free PDF Image Extraction Wizard (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pdfextractwiz.html) works rather well for extracting bitmap images from PDFs. Even the free OCR program that came with your scanner can do a pretty decent job of ripping text from PDFs.

Standard Adobe doesn't necessarily allow edits of all pdf files - particularly if the creater has added security and/or used a native font you don't have. And buying 'em ain't cheap....
