is there a "quick and dirty" way to identify a Win" modem looking at the modem chassis??..i assume if u see more components (chips) you are looking at a NON winmodem..is this correct??

Good luck. ISA modems are typically not WinModems. PCI typically are (there are several exceptions.) All external modems are hardware driven.
