Hi there,
Can anyone tell me if the BIOS or DOS will support USB devices such as keyboards, mice, Zip drives etc. Or are USB devices only usable in Windows.

what kind of system do you have, what kind of bios, etc.

well my computer in the bios has a setting whether or not usb support in dos is enabled or not. i have a pcchips mobo, m599lmr, and my bios is amibios. if you can, take a look to see if you have this setting too. i have never needed to get to my usb devices in dos because i only have a usb zip drive. if your keyboard is usb, then that is another matter http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

as i said, take a look, and if you have the option, then enable it and then let it boot, then reboot to dos and test it. good luck!

John - I don't believe that any version of MS-DOS supports USB by itself. USB was only in apple equipment when MS released DOS 6.22,so it would either have to be a patch file you need, or you could look into the specs for IBM PC-DOS 7.0 which came out in 1998. It might have USB support or there might be a patch as IBM is still supporting their version while MS ain't doing it.

Only the latest versions of win95 supported USB with MS only making a real effort in win98 to use the USB ports.

So - let us know if you locate a patch for MS-DOS out there. I haven't spent much time on the topic myself.

Correct me if I'm wrong , fellas, - I'm not proud http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
