Not getting e-mail notifications

Just wondering, haven't been getting emails from here for several days now. Yes, I checked in the User CP , it's set for instant notification. Something wrong? :t

I haven't had a PM's our subscribed threads on Sysopt so I am not sure about the forums, but I am still getting the Sysopt newsletter.

I think that means the server's e-mail is up and functioning if its on the same server. If not then its unrelated.

Hm, just checked the last thread I posted to... sure enough, somebody posted after me, and I got no email notify. There's a problem, just a matter of where it lies.

There's been some server maintenance work being done by JupiterMedia, but I don't know if this site was affected. JP or SRJ should know.

OK, next question... is anybody getting email notifications? If it's a Sysopt server problem, fine... but if it's emails being blocked by select service providers, that's something we might be able to work around...

I get them. I got one for each post in this thread (except for mine) after I posted, just as my options are set. Doesn't seem as if it's a server problem, if that was the case it would have been solved fairly fast.

Nada here. What's weird is that I was getting them fine and then, poof, nothing. I've not changed any settings either here or in my email.

I changed it several months ago to this current one, worked fine then. Just this last bit that I've posted about that's been a problem. And no, I don't have another Email to try and really don't want one, it's a PITA to have multiple emails. ;)

Unfortunately it's the only way to be sure where the problem lies. 99 times out of 100 it's the e-mail provider not delivering the e-mail., particularly when everyone else is receiving them

Well, so much for getting mails again. I've made a change in the settings for spam, now I'll see what, if anything, is being filtered out. Maybe for some reason they're filtering my sysopt mailings as spam. If so, then I'll check on how to fix this part. :mad:

It doesn't matter that they're not showing as spam. Some e-mail providers don't deliver the e-mails at all. They are filtered out before they ever reach you. For example, Verizon never delivers vbulletin e-mails, not just ours but any vbulletin forum. I know because I used a Verizon e-mail to join several of vbulletin forums and never got any of the e-mails.

But they're not the only ones by any stretch. AOL delivers them only sometimes, as does Yahoo. There are quite a number of them that filter them out before they ever get to the intended party.

That's the way the forum works. You don't get an e-mail for every new reply. You get an e-mail for the first new reply since your last visit. It even says that in e-mail

I understand what you are saying, however, I was getting them at my comcast address before, so does that mean that they changed something or what? They'd been coming there for months, then bam, nothing. Maybe I should call them up and harass some dimwit at tech support. ;)

OK, I've set up a temporary new email acct. See if that works, then I'll know if I need to call my regular provider and chew some backsides off. ;)

It's still the same e-mail provider, same domain. It will make absolutely no difference. In order to test this you need to use an e-mail provider that is not Comcast. Set up a Hotmail address or Gmail.

From what I've heard here, it would seem that either Comcast is rejecting emails from you outright, or is quietly sending them to the bit bucket... in either case, that's not something anybody does on a whim. Why is Comcast blocking your servers from sending email to their clients?

there's nothing we can do about that. We have tried to contact Verizon and AOL, and never received any reply. Verizon blocks not only our forum e-mails, but apparently any Vbulletin forum. AOL will deliver some e-mails and not others. If we were blacklisted for some reason, it would only affect our forum e-mails not others, and it would affect them all the time

By the way, just as a point of interest, Verizon was sued for non-delivery of e-mails and they lost. I know because I was contacted about it.

JP, simple question. For test purposes, is it possible to have 2 email addy's instead of just the singular? I have talked with some flea brain at comcast and am going to follow up with them, although I have little hope as talking to them was like talking to a bowl of oatmeal. I just wondered, since if I ever get hold of someone there with more brains than a roadkill I would like to have my mails come to my comcast addy but in the interest of knowing that you actually sent them I'd like to have them sent to the hotmail acct. as well so I can verify that they are working again. I do understand if it's not possible, but thanks.

I just found out I wasn't getting emails at a sister site...I emailed Road Runners support department for email issues....

They sent me a link where I could test the IP address that the emails were comming from and sure enough, it was on a blocked list.

The IP for SysOpt Email is: 63.236.18.217

Hell, I gave them the email address that comes on the emails, jpnyc@jupitermedia. Explained its a forum. Like I said though, its like talking to a bowl of oatmeal. Ill be calling them tomorrow again, just for giggles. ;)

Minor Update if you're interested. Had a talk with a bowl of oatmeal monday, got transfered to someone who might have actually understood the situation. Was asked to call back a day or so later to see if it'd been resolved. Called late yesterday and was told it'd been taken care of. Reset my email, we'll find out. So far a few from here have actaully made it to the inbox. I'll keep you informed! ;)
