I had IE 5.5 beta installed and working fine except for one glitch that kept me from automatically fowarding on this UBB. Anyway, I got fed up with trying to resolve that and uninstalled back to 5.0.
IE 5.0 works fine so I guess I should be happy, but I really wanted to upgrade to 5.01.
Every time I go to MS update, I get half way through the 5.01 download and it dumps me.
I do a reboot as suggested and resume the setup when prompted. Same thing, dumps me.
I got rid of the IE 5.01 setup file in Startup, did a registry sweep with Norton Registry sweep and RegClean, deleted the temp files from Temporary Internet Files and Temp directory and tried again.
Same thing.
Has anyone else experienced problems updating to IE 5.01 or is it just me?
Thanks for any help,

IE 5.5 left something behind that is interferring with it.

I would run SFC.EXE. Make sure you set it to check for deleted and corrupted files from it's advanced settings options.

You might be able to do the installation also if you first delete the internet explorer folder from program files.

Might be time for re-installation of OS

BBA,
I never even knew about SFC.EXE before today. I'll check it out, looks like it could be quite a useful util.

Wouldn't deleting the internet explorer folder from program files be kinka like cuttin off the limb I was standin' on, or at least going to stand on to download the update?

I cringe at the thought of re-installation of OS. As long as 5.0 is working without a hitch and nothing else is effected, I'll probably not resort to that.

Thanks for the SFC.EXE tip, I'll keep ya posted if it does the trick.

go to start-programs-accessories-systemtools-systeminformation-then go to tools-system file checker sfc for short exlore all options. when running it it will prompt you and you can revert back to an older version!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you go to system file checker and reinstall just any file listed to be corrupt you'll cause more trouble. The ones you need to worry about are the, "invalid page fault caused by" and restore that file only. Files are changed all the time and sys file checker will report on items that are OK, just changed. The easy place to grab the non-corrupt file when prompted is browse to windows/options/cabs sincerely DrVette
