Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Which Hard Drive???
Hi there,
I have a 4yr old hard drive, which is EXTREMELY sssllooowwwwww, so I'm gonna buy a new one. From the ones in the list, which one should I get?
Fujitsu 6.4gig UDMA 66
Fujitsu 8.4gig UDMA 66
Quantum Fireball CX 13gig (UDMA 66)
Thanks,
Mike
I know you listed three drives to choose from, but I would take a look at the IBM drives. I think they are the best. Great speed, and great with overclocking. They are also priced reasonably. I know quantum makes good SCSI drives, but never had experience with ides from them. From what I have heard stay away from fuji.

I've always been a Quantum man. But for a cheaper drive(not that this is relevant these days) I can't fault Western Digital. Here I got 1 Quantum and 2 MAxtors, I don't like Maxtor really. I would totally be against EVER using an IBM drive, I've seen way too many faulty ones for my liking. I've also seen how many bad blocks IBM cover up on the drives they ship out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Go with the 13g Quantum. You'll find something useful to fill up the extra space in no time flat. I rememer just two years ago when a friend had a new 6g hard drive and I thought, "how could you EVER need that much space??"
This coming from someone who now has a 13 gig hard drive filled up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks for the quick responses everyone http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I guess I'll stick with the quantum from what I've just read.

Hi Ekim,
Just over year ago I brought a Fujitsu MPC3064AT 6.4GB HD. It was a relatively fast drive and I never had any problems with it. That is till about a month ago... The drive began to corrupt data, run scandisk everytime I booted, and finally it dissappeared from the BIOS!!! Now its nothing more than a futuristic paper-weight!!! I know this problem wasn't due to overheating, shock etc because I had another HD below it, which is much older and is still going strong today. My experience is probably rare, but I'm afraid its put me of buying a Fujitsu HD again!!!

I had a Fuji once. Only once. It died in 2 weeks. I then started buying Quantum. Never had a problem. I'm stuck on Quantum's. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
