I have WXP and have the latest SP2 installed However when I play a video using Windows Media Player the video is very jerky and jerks from one picture to another resulting in missing the smooth, some of the pics takes about 5 secs to jerk from one pic to another

I would guess your problem is related to the video codec used to make the video playable on the system, but need more information.

What type of video are you playing? (WMA, AVI, MPG, MP4, Etc)
Where did you get the file? (Internet, E-Mail, Family or Friend)
Do you know how the file was encoded? (DivX, Quicktime, Etc...)

K-Lite Codec Standard should take care of that.

Watch the file association when installing it.

Train Thank you for that that has certainly seemed to have fixed the problem as a bonus it has also fixed the sound as it would not play on some videos.
However I do have am problem in that I am getting a lot of static when I have the sound turned on It sort of sounds like a high pitched band saw.
