when i bought my SB live! value (6 months ago), the first thing that i tried to do was hear some cd music.
i soon noticed that the cd audio (and only the cd audio) only was in the left speaker.
i wrote to tech support of creative, but they only showed their ignorance.
the problem can't be the speakers.
i think it may be one of 3 things:
-a weird interior problem on the sound card.
-the cd rom is crappy and it doesnt read cd audio data or it is incompatible with the SB (i havent had a problem with my cd drive yet)
-the cable that links the cd rom and the SB its incompatible.(i have tried with different analog cd audio cables, including the one that came with my card, and the problem still the same. the digital audio cable gives me the same problems.

what a want to ask is if there are different standarts of the cd audio on the cd rom and the Sound car.
maybe i need to buy a special cable or anything like that?
i am really lost here, write me anything that could help.
pd: sorry about my english

Try reversing your audio cable from your cd rom to your sound card. It may also be the wrong cable all together.

I had a similar problem. Try a different cable.

If the connectors on the cable from the CD drive to the sound card fit in their respective places properly, make sure that the wires going into those connectors are in the proper order. Use the one that came with the card, if possible. It should already have the sound card end set up properly. Then check the other end and make sure that the wires are in the same order listed on the back of the CD drive (usually) or in it's manual. Red is usually for the right speaker, white is left, and black is common. Good luck.

I verified that the red, white and black cables were alingned, and they were. but there was a big black cable and a small yellow one (in the 2nd and 3rd position, wich i dont know what are for.
then i changed the cd rom side to the SB and for my surprise the sound in the right speaker returned.
but i still have a fuzzy fealing that something is still wrong.
when the cd is playing the CD player (or any other player) suddenly says that there is no cd on the drive and the track info disappear.
the music keeps playing, and if you wait enough the cd is recognized again by the player for a short moment and then it becomes unknow CD again.
thank you all for helping.
i'll give you money if you gave me your address(thats a joke).
thanks
