Either Mac (Although I've never used one) or a pc one should be good enough. It depends on what type of websites you making, static website(Good 'ol HTML), data-driven (ASP/PHP etc), whether you'll be designing your own images or not.

I will be doing mostly html, some asp/php and I'm going learn how to design my own images. As well enlist the help of someone who is better on designing images.
I've been hearing from some people a mac would be better and others say a pc will work for you as well. If I'm just learning.
I was looking at some notebooks at the local fry's here that range from 550-700$.
Thx :t

Well like I said before I've had no real experiance with Macs but anything you can do on a Mac you can do on a PC but for less.
I'm not sure if you can create ASP pages on a Mac, that maybe something you want to look in to first before you decide.

the 17" would be preferred, but any of these work very well

Just an opinion here, but I would steer clear of Mac notebooks unless you know of a good reason why you need the Mac over a PC.
If you were an advanced web designer with flair, a Mac would probably fit your personality--let's face it...that's why most people buy a Mac...for image.
But for starting out learning, and doing some beginner-to-intermediate web design, a middle-of-the-road laptop will do you just fine. You shouldn't need to spend more than $600 for something like that.

Because ASP scripts are executed on the server, you can not view ASP code in a browser, you will only see the output from ASP which is plain HTML.

Any $550-700 laptop can easily handle what you want to do.
I prefer Toshiba myself because of their track record. Dell and then the latest HP's but only the HP ones. The Compaqs have not come up to standards as far as I feel.
Best add this link for learning all the web stuff you would like to learn.

Windows laptops are just much cheaper than Apple. Apple is great for graphics and such but as stated previously, it's cheaper to do on Windows and good graphics are good because they are designed that way, it doesn't matter the OS!
One thing you should note is what server and technology you are going to use. If you are going to host on a Windows server then you want to use IIs and that doesn't come with XP home so go pro there, although there are work arounds!
If you are going to do something like Ruby on Rails then an Apple may be easier but the cost is higher!
The bottom line is how much you're willing to spend if you want to save money go Windows, if you want to spend a lot get a high end Apple and then you can even run Windows inside it or dual boot!
