I am having trouble installing office. It started installing everything fine, but crashed at the end. It stated that it needed to reboot the machine, I hit Yes/OK, then the error box "unexpected termination" appeared and closed the installer program.
I restarted the computer anyway, and once it got into windows 95 it kinda finished the installing/personalizing. But when I try to start any office app. the program just crashes.
I went to add/remove programs and tried to remove office, but when I hit the add/remove button I still get the error "unexpected termination".
Has anyone had this problem before? I check the M$ knowledge base, but I couldn't find the error message. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Another thing to check after you get the prior files uninstalled is to Unoverclock your system if it is. also you might run a SFC prior to the installation and check to see if their are any corrupted files prior to the installation.

I haven't seen this problem. I installed both the upgrade and full version of Premium with no problems. If you cannot uninstall, try to reinstall the program on top of the original installation and see if it will let you. That may fix any problems you may have. Office2K has a way to repair itself by doing this. It may be some sort of problem with something running in the background or system tray or just plain-old Windows instability. Good luck. I hope you get i running.

Before I installed office I had reformatted the hard drive, so I just reformatted it again. I couldn't get any reinstall/fix/repair box, the installer would crash before it got there. The strange thing is that when I installed it the second time, it did the same thing. So I formatted it again. This time I installed one office component at a time, and it worked great. For some reason the computer couldn't install it in one big "chunk".
Thanks for all of your advice.

don't mean to get touchie here. but, is it a burnet cd-copy someone made for you or an upgrade. I bought the full ver. premium 2000 edition when it first hit the streets for my shop. and I have reinstalled it many many times off of the oringal disks and a couple of times off a burnt copy I made myself. and I have never done a clean format on the drive or anything. but, I installed it on a oem full ver. 98 system . Ijust poped in the cd and let her go. not to mean anything by this. but, if you paid over $800.00 for the program like I did. I wouldn't be here asking questions on how to load it. I would be on the phone to tech. support or carrying the "POS" copy they sold me back. but, this is only my outlook on the subject. Don't get me wrong on this. but, if you paid for it like I did. It just kinda ticks me off for you to have these kinda problems. hope you get it strighten out.
