A freind needs to know if it's possible to take his German new laser printer a (Brother HL-1040)to America and change the power
supply over to 110V. It's running with 240V at the moment. I need an electrition expert for this one.

I work for Southern Energy Electrical Generation. The standard for most European countries is 50hz the USA standard is 60hz, it may run for a while but I doubt that it will last I am not an electrical engineer, but this is trade knowledege. Call a technical school nearby or an electronics shop.. good luck DrVette
Jeanine - I've got a question - is the power supply external - I.E., is there a cord that goes into a heavy little black box which then has a cord that goes into the printer itself? - If so, Brother would probably be more than happy to sell him a U.S. compliant power supply for the printer with the correct plug, voltage, and amperage so that he won't damage his unit.
If the power supply is internal, I wouldn't bother bringing it over, but would spend the money to buy one here. As European power runs at a higher voltage than U.S., I'm absolutely sure he can get a converter to step the voltage down and use the printer in Europe when he gets back there.
Another thing to check is whether or not he can get ink/ribbion supplies for the printer here in the U.S.
Lastly, does the printer adjust to U.S. standard 8.5*11 paper? - German office paper is slightly larger and is to metric scale.
Just a few things to think about.
Also - if he doesn't want to buy a printer while in the U.S. - rent one - Better than lugging his over here and a)finding it won't work for whatever reason or b) damaging it in transit.
