Hello, I have a computer with an MSI motherboard, it turns on fine, however it frequently just shuts off randomly. I opened it up to take a look, I noticed the MSI motherboard fan is not on, does this fan only turn on sometimes?
Any ideas what the problem is?
Power Supply?

Fans do wear out when the bearings get dry or there is dust blocking it.
Get a new fan. The only thing that is important with fans is the size. Get the same size and it will work fine.

thanks for the response, but would the motherboard fan cause the computer to shut off randomly, and how do I get the fan off, it appears to be sodered on. Also forgot to mention sometime it takes a few pushes of the button and resetting the power supply for the computer to turn on.

Sounds like you have a few problems there. I think you are talking about the Northbridge chipset heatsink and fan. The heatsink should be epoxied on and it will not come off.
Is the fan bad or not?

Well i can spin it with my hand, im just wondering, should it always be spinning or does that fan only turn on when needed?

It should run all the time. It's likely held on by thermal tape. Try twisting it off.
Random shutdowns are often causes by an inadequate or failing power supply.
