My first post to this board...

Starting today, when booting, my PC does it's memory check OK and then just sits there with the message "Wait...". Normally, the CMOS information screen would display right after the "Wait..." message and the computer would proceed to boot up.

If I press "ESC" at the "Wait..." pause it proceeds to complete the boot process and everything seems fine.

What might cause this pause?

TIA!

Bob

Thanks for the suggestion, deep_sky.

My HD is jumpered for "cable select" and connected to the Ultra66 card and my CDR is jumpered as "slave" but it is connected to the motherboard's onboard IDE controller and not the Ultra66.

As it turns out, apparently the onboard IDE controller was not recognizing my CDR for some reason and that was causing the pause. I had forgotten that between the memory check and the CMOS data screen is where any IDE devices are detected by my BIOS. Persistent rebooting and a gentle tap on the case solved the problem.

i had this problem when i had two harddrives on the same ide channel and stupid me they were both set to master. could your problem be incorrect jumper settings on any of your internal devices?
