Yep
The OS doesn't actually configure the RAM for system access. That happens within the BIOS, I believe.
One thing you should be aware of is that windows 95 doesn't typically effectively use more than 64 MB of RAM. It will see it, but typically starts writing to a hard drive swap file after it uses up 64MB. I've got 96 MB of RAM in my home system and don't really see the need for any more on it. I spent my money on a VOODOO video card with 16MB of on-board ram which did a lot more for my system.
win98 effectively uses up to 128 MB, I believe. Win NT and windows 2000 will use as much RAM as you will give it and then ask for more in the way of page files.
certain levels of SUN OS UNIX can only handle so much RAM as well. I'm not sure about Linux or MAC.
So - I'd say you bought RAM with an OS upgrade in mind http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
