Hello all. I just need help with a gaming computer. Im just looking to play games like WoW with decent frame rates, CS source at good frame rates, and maybe even S.T.A.L.K.E.R at a playable level. Im looking at this one rig i saw on ebay and i need help knowing if its upgradable to an 8800gtx or SLi? Also if its even any good. The price is really good (here in australia). And what is pentium D?

Dont buy that ****, if you dont know how to build your own computer go buy a dell. Or use a site to build it for you. Cyberpowerinc.com

It's an antique already. Thats about the lowest end "dual core" processor Intel ever made. The video card is also the lowest end. You can do a lot better than that for the money, even at HP or Dell:

Oh, and welcome to sysopt... We aren't always this negative. Just trying to look out for ya mate.. :t

Well do you know any australian shops that sell PC's? Basically in australian dollars, 1000 is what i want to spend for now, just for the tower obviously. I cant buy overseas as i dont have a credit card.

Im in sydney. I went to this shopping center thats only computer stuff and i found one that i like.
Specs are:
Asus p5pl2/C Intel 945 Motherboard
SoundMAX Digital Audio and Gigabite LAN
256MB Geforce 7900GS HDTV
1GB Dual DDR2 Memory
160GB SATA2 Hard Disk
16x DVD Writer Dual Layer
Keyboard and Mouse
Midi Tower Case (What is that? I know its the case but what is a midi case?)
It comes with either:
Pentium Dual 2.8, 3 or 3.4 and Core2duo 1.8, 1.86, 2.13, and 2.4
At the moment im looking at the lowest end processor but if it is THAT much better to go with the lowest end Core2duo I will do that. Also im curious about the case. Im wanting to get one case and stick with it for a while so would it be a wise desicion to throw in a couple bucks to get a better case? Im going to be upgrading gradually and slowly.
The system with the lowest end processor is 939 bucks and the lowest end core2duo processor is 1,079. Remember its in australian dollars and the main apps im wanting to run are CS source and WoW!. What do you guys think of it?

Now that's looking a lot better for your $$. Spend the extra if you and get the C2D. A midi is just a medium size case.

I agree with mobo. Your getting warmer now. Mid tower case is fine for you. I have a mid tower and have 4 HD's plus tons of other stuff cramed in so Im sure you will be fine with a mid.

I saw the case today and it looks really average. I might spend a bit more to get a decent looking case, I can get them to do it for me or I can do it myself. If i did it myself, how hard would it be to transfer everything in that case to another? Will it be a hard job? I dont mind the length of time it takes, im just wondering if it will get really messy or not.

building computers is painfully easy. really, you just have to get over this common bewilderment everyone seems to have about them, touch something metal before you begin (just incase of static) and dig in!
the hard part is maintaining them, as all microsoft products have a radioactive half life
ok seriously though, if you can use a screwdriver you can build a computer, let alone transfer components from one case to another. my advice to you is read read read read read read read!
just type in... building computer basics or something like that in google and go to town. as far as what's hot, there are plenty of threads here, or on related sites (that you may find from your initial google search) showing benchmarks and such.
for your price range don't even consider SLI. drop the cash on a decent single card.
that deal you found isn't bad. i'd recommend stealing a credit card and hitting the net though, as you migth be able to shave a few hundred off or upgrade accordingly. if you must however, that deal you have there will suit you nicely.
core 2 duo is definately worth it. you also may snoop around to see if you can find a system with an ati x1950 graphics card, it's probably the hottest cheapie around.
