When the hard drive sits idle, it makes a "click" sound every few seconds or so. This is not disk activity, but rather sounds like the hd is stopping. Compaq has no fix or answers that I know of. They had a similar problem with a Seagate hd a few years ago and put out a "idleoff" softpaq fix. Just wondered if anyone has heard of this problem, any ideas etc.. The hd is a Hitachi 4.3g dk238a-43. Thanks... Axel 01-05-2000, 08:04 AM Sounds like the hard drive read/write head parks when it's idle. If that's getting noisy, it sounds like you've got some hardware damage inside the drive. mike_ny1974 01-06-2000, 09:59 AM it sounds like the HD might crash in the future. i suggest getting a new HD and sending the other one back to the manufacture for a replacement SysOpt.com
