Ok I am going to feel really dumb if this is a simple fix but...

At wrok we have an old Dell Optiplex (P75) running Win95C. When we try to move the icons we cannot. The cursor turns into a circle with a slash through it. I've tried to autoarrange and arrange by name but nothing works. If I change the resolution the icons (that would then be out of frame)stack on top of each other. These I can move freely once. But after they are moved they are again immobile. Very strange, indeed! Any feedback will be appreciated. This only affects the desktop icons. System specs (of the ones I know right of hand)

Dell Optiplex (circa 95/96)
P 75
40 MB EDO RAM
~1.0 GB hdd
Win 95 C (reinstall & reformatted 6 months ago)
Thanks-Dave

daveleau,
Have you tried TweakUI "Restore icons" or "Repair icons" tab(can't remember which, sorrry).
It should do the trick.
Hope so,

Sounds like one of the security add-ons some stores install to display units so an otherwise effective prankster wont mess up the desktop.

Other than that, have you gone into explorer and checked the properties for the desktop folder under windows? make sure it doesn't have the read only attribute set.
