hi,
i'm working on a mini-q and am getting a single beep when i power on.
if i clear the cmos using the jumper(i have to leave it sit for an hour or so) and then restore the jumper,it will boot. if i unplug the AC and replug i again get the single beep and have to redo clearing cmos again.i have reset the memory(also tried different chip) and changed battery.i also pulled the board to make sure there were no screws or anything shorting out the board.Any and All suggestions or cures will be greatly appreciated.
thank you,
steve
also,i get the problem sometimes even if i don't unplug the AC.

Welcome to Sysopt ! :t
One short beep during power on is " no POST error" , an all is normal beep . There are usually only 3 types of error beep codes anymore , Memory , Video and CPU . I suspect a bad power supply or motherboard . Check for bad caps , http://www.badcaps.net/ident/ . Try testing the board outside the case with a known good power supply .

hi Rocketmech,
i should have mentioned that the beep is a Long one as opposed to the normal short beep that i get on most of my systems.i don't have another mini-q type power supply but will try a regular one and check the caps.Thanx for the info and i'll post my results.
Thanx again,
steve

One long beep is usually bad RAM or at least a loose RAM stick.

Oozing caps (no matter how many or how few) is a bad sign.
I have seen mobos take out a perfectly good hard drive when it zapped the drive due to oozing caps on the mobo.
I would replace the mobo ASAP and stop using it right away.

Ditto , if you can't find a replacement board , then try asking a local Video/Audio repair shop if they can replace the bad caps .
