Gateway, Win95 and Office 2000

Can anyone give me some advice on error messages installing office 2000. I found the error message on microsofts site and tried everything, but it still is not working. I can open and run every office program except word 2000, it gives an illegal operation during the splash screen when opening.
I have tried upgrading to win98 with no success. Anyone had the same problem.

Give us a clear sequence of events as to what happens; when and what you've tried. Also - tell us more about your hardware - it's probably a software conflict, but your specs might help trigger something someone else has come across.

have you tried uninstalling any older versions of MS Word or Office before installing Office 2000? There is a uninstall utility on the MS website if you have trouble uninstalling anything old office apps.
