Does anyone know how to get rid of these? I have no idea where they come from but for the past couple of days I've been getting Explorer errors when I click the start menu and try to start any kind of program. Its not all the time but frequent enough to be a huge pain in the ***.
I'm running win98, on P3-500, 128RAM...
Would re-installing windows fix it?
If you are running IE4, you might benefit by upgrading to IE4.0 SP2 off the IE download site.
A simple reload of IE4 might fix the problem - Several of the IE components integrate into the OS. If it's damaged, or resides on cross-linked hard drive sectors, you might experience the symptoms you have now.
Next time you start successfully, drop into safe mode and do a thorough scandisk & defrag of your hard drives. Might just be cross-linked files.
Should you decide to try to re-install IE, do a scandisk and defrag before you do.
You might also benefit by downloading and installing Tweakui for your OS and running it's repair features.
If you have Win98, run system file checker and go into it's advanced features and check the box to scan for corrupt files, then scan the system.
Run it by typing "SFC" at the run dialog line.
