It going slow puzzles me. Strip 01-04-2000, 01:10 PM Try to set the CD on the same cable as the HDD. I admit that this may sound strange, but it did wonders on my friend's Pioneer 12X. Also make sure that you don't have any drivers for the CD in the autoexec.bat / config.sys files. kagey35 01-05-2000, 12:27 AM Have recently loaded W98SE OEM(from W95a)after reformatting HDD. Tatung 24X cd is displaying error messages (ie. cannot read from drive) on installing some software, and is also v-e-r-y slow when loading games. Anyone had this problem before? How did you solve it? Do I need a new driver? I have looked everywhere on web(!) for new W98 driver in case this could be the cause. Thanks for any help Karen BBA 01-05-2000, 12:32 AM Did you do a clean install of Win98? I take it the "from W95a" meant that's what was on the PC before you wiped the drive clean...right? As for CD drivers, Win98SE has the drivers for almost every cd-rom controller there is, including via's. If it works slow there is either a hardware problem with it, or compatibility issues with it and your board or it does not follow the atapi standard. What else do you have in the PC? kagey35 01-05-2000, 12:55 AM Hi, Re-partitioned HDD from 2x2.1Gb with W95a ... to one partition with W98SE. Intel P233MMX, 64Mb Ram, 1.44 Floppy drive, Tatung 24X Cd rom (master on own IDE cable) 4.3 Gb HDD (master on IDE-0) Canon BJ4100, GamePad Pro. Not exactly top of the range I know, but I can't understand why the errors appear! Cheers Karen SysOpt.com
