Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Why is Num Lock typically engaged on keyboards? raz 01-02-2000, 07:06 PM just curious CMonster 01-02-2000, 07:12 PM I think it's a Micro$oft thing - every Linux install I ever did I had to press the "Num Lock" key. commodsquad 01-02-2000, 07:18 PM I believe the reason for the numlock option to be turned on is to set the number pad on the right side of the keyboard to be able to display/use numeric applications or when it is turned off it is to be used as directional functions like the up, down, right, and left arrow keys... RayH 01-02-2000, 07:20 PM If it's on at bootup, you have to go into the BIOS to disable it on bootup. Usually, the default is ENABLE on bootup. Mine is disabled on bootup. BC 01-05-2000, 12:53 AM Yes it is in the BIos. Generally in the one of the boot properities. I have a keyboard like a Laptop for my PC which dosen't have a num pad so it gets to be a pain when num lock is on. BC SysOpt.com
