Hope someone can help me out here.
I replaced my motherboard with a Abit KN8 SLI,
I put in a new AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ socket 939 CPU,
1GB of Corsair 400 DDR Ram,
an ATI Radeon 7000 32 MDDR video card.
A new 550W power supply.
I can boot to the bios screen and do changes there have
every thing set to default except the video I have set to
PCI, PCIE is disabled.
when I save out of the bios screen and start to boot I get 2
beeps one at a low tone followed by another at a higher tone
in about a space of 1/2 second. I get the the boot information screen
then my Windows XP splash screen appears very dim for about a second
then I get a Windows did not start properly screen asking to start in different modes, none work, The computer restarts the whole sequence over again.
TIA for the help.:D

if you just replaced the motherboard, did you do a clean install or a repair of xp?
look at the FIRST link on Best of Motherboards (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162276)

I was trying to do a repair on XP except I forgot what my administrator password was so that did not work. I'll do a clean install if I can get it running again. I pulled out the video card and tried a PCIE card one my brother gave me its an Asus EAX300LE, that did not post at all, now I can't get my other card to post either, I’m just getting the two recurring beep codes.

you don't need the admin password to do a repair install.

did you test the motherboard outside the case on a non-conductive surface? all you need is mb, cpu, ram, and psu.

NO, I did not know that about the password thanks.
OK I'll try setting it up the way you describe outside the case.

OK, every thing powers up when setup outside the case. I placed the MB back in the case and started hooking up all my fans and PCIE power connections. I can power up no problem. I connect the hard drive cables cd rom & cdrw cables, and then connect the power to all drives. When I hit the power, it comes on but my two CD drives are cycling on and off. What does that indicate?
I just purchased this power supply. Its a Logisys all clear 550w ATX w/SATA & PCIE support Model PS550AC.

are you sure you jumpered the drives properly? did you try one drive at a time?

I did not change any of the jumpers since I replaced the MB, they all worked fine before.

I have the same board. Have you tried clearing your cmos and trying it with default values first?

Well I did when I could get into the Bios. It's not letting me get that far any more. Anyway I'm sending the CPU and the MB back for an exchange. What size power supply and brand are you using?

there is a jumper on the motherboard that will clear the cmos.
