OK, silly question time.
I have about £120 ($230) to spend on a graphics card. Should I get 2 cards for £60 and put them into an SLi configuration.....guess they have to be Nvidia cards?? or just go with something like a single X1950PRO or a GE7950GT.

do the cards have to support Sli or is that just a m'board function?

All help gratefully received.

In most cases, one powerful card is better than two lower cards in SLI.

SLI is an nvidia product, so of course only nvidia video cards will do SLI.

look at the "best of video" next time.

1 better card over multiple lower cards any day.

SLI stresses the CPU more, so that should be a last ditch resort to get more power out of your system. Get the single X1950Pro or 7950GT

Just to echo the above, SLI with slower cards is a bit like tying two VW Beetles together and especting them to keep pace with a Porsche 911, its not gonna happen.

Throw into the mix the various driver issues still surrounding SLI (particularly on Vista), and the decision shoudl become pretty clear
