My notbook (Dell C600: PIII-866/256 ram) was working great: win xp-home and all programs functioning perfectly.

I powered down and moved the computer about 5 feet to another desk----powered uo---and got the screen indicating winxp has a problem and offering me several choices (ie boot to last known good configuration; start windows normally etc).

No matter which choice is made (even to safe mode): the computer powers down, reboots back to this same screen!--wont ven "go" to safe mode.

what may have caused this and

what would be a good solution save reinstalling the OS?

thanx.
