Can anyone give me any suggestions why my comp decides to freeze while playing Everquest? I could see once in a while but it does it ALL the time! I know one of you geniuses can help me or give me suggestions, and I would greatly apprecaite any help! Thanks.
Specs:
Athlon 500
GA-71x MB
64 mb pc100 ram
250 watt power supply
Viper v770 ultra
P.S. Have downloaded new drivers and updates for both my Athlon and Viper, however I couldnt understand what the new drivers for the MB did so I didnt mess with them. I also defragged my HD. Someone please help me.

what version of DirectX are you using?
A freeze in a game after successful play is usually an indication of a hardware problem. Usually heat related.
Try and see if it does the same with the PC's case covers removed. If it plays a longer time before freezing, then the culprit is heat.
Let us know!
I think I am using directx 6.0, and IM gonna try the cover thing right now. Thanks alot, any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far.

You don't have to use a 300Watt PS. I have used a 300/250/235 to my Athlon with many cards and disks (geforce, sblive, 2x128, dvd, cdrw etc) and never had a problem. Generally if you can boot and install windows with no problems then you don't have a power or a memory problem (two of the most common problems with athlons).
Heat is a thing to consider but you didn't tell us if you play other games (specially 3d games) with no problems and for long periods of time...

Heat isnt the problem...have had the case cover off for the past 24 hours...still does it. Yes the power supply is approved by AMD. It was horrible tonight. I dunno if it does it with other games. I only play that game. I havent noticed it lock up with anything else however it does freeze alot of the time while loading windows. Oh, I am alos running directx 6.1. Any other suggestions? This thing is really making me mad, and I really appreciate any help!
