Hey everyone, I’ve been trying to decide if I should build a computer and would like to know everyone’s opinion. This will be the first comp that I’ll be building. I was starting to build it already after doing no research at all. I was kind of in a buying frenzy because I wanted a good comp already. I only bought a hard drive and a motherboard.

After doing a little research on the socket 939 I learned it’s pretty much obsolete so I’m going to return it and will most likely look for an AM2.

I'm not a hardcore gamer so I wasn't looking for the best machine out there at first. But now after reading up on video cards and things I have found a few things I will most likely want:

- DVI because I'm going to want the the most perfect picture on the LCD screen.
- 512 MB video card (I want this but don’t know if it will be in price range)
- SATA based as much as possible
- SLI/Crossfire for future upgradeability (Opinions on what video cards are best and why please)

The main game I play right now is Tribes. (9 year old game) About 200 people are on daily at an average still and the game is still very good. But the 2 best servers on it are both being remade with Torque. So I wanted a comp that could handle it, probably doesn't take much. It uses OpenGL at highest settings so I don't know if I would need a video card that is specifically for that. I will also most likely play BF2 and BF2142.

I found this combo on newegg and wanted to know if it was worth the price. http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103861
Scroll to the bottom, basically a free motherboard. Divides out to about $289 each and I was putting a limit on $300 for anything so I'm considering it. The CPU is one of the latest released right? I think that motherboard is pretty good too.

I was also skeptical about actually buying anything right now since I read that new video cards and motherboards will be coming out around June. (What exactly will be coming out?) So I expect there to be a lot of price drops on the things I would be buying right now. Correct me on anything if I’m wrong.

On the topic about overclocking which I know nothing about. Is it hard to do? I've gotten an image in my head that it's difficult to overclock. I know you need more cooling and stuff but how exactly would I set up extra fans in a case?

Well, this is all I can think of at 2:30 in the morning and probably left out a few things. :p I would really appreciate any and all help, thanks in advance.

With more research done, I've been getting opinions that the Intel Core 2 Duo is better than anything AMD currently has to offer. :O

As much as i hate to say it, thats absoloutley correct. Not to say that AMD's offerings are especially poor at present, but Intel are producing the superior stuff at the moment.
