and then
this one for 478, this one is online only tho. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5412015

Then bestbuy has this one for 499
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8209235&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat103700050018&id=1165610938449

not great, or even good, for gaming, but great if you are a student, or a teacher, and just need a laptop, and don't need frills, and don't have much money.

just a heads up.

I need a new laptop but I can't buy one that doesn't have the trackpoint. It's the only mouse substitute I can tolerate.

I know, they're too sensitive.

Nice links co2 and Sterling

No, I actually LIKE the trackpoints. It's those stupid scratchpad finger thingies I can't stomach.

Wait are track points are these, right?

I thought that the flat finger pads were what you are talkin' about. I don't care much for laptops. Anyway, I agree with you. I myself would rather use a small mouse over those options.

Yes, that's a trackpoint. Unfortunately my old IBM A30 has given up, so I have to replace it. But I think the only LT's offering the trackpoint anymore are IBMs, so I have to go that route

Nothing wrong with that...

I would prefer an IBM over any other company anyday, that's the only laptop I like...

I wonder how backward compatible their stuff is. Wonder if I could just upgrade the processor. I have a ton of expensive software loaded from I.T. school that I don't have the discs for. Most notably visual studio, but other stuff like Oracle and other things as well.

I wouldn't know, but probably.

Over the years, thinkpads have always looked the same, but each had a new tweak. New mobo, maybe a new type of cpu, that weird finger print ID verification thingy....

Well, that was an accessory.

Cpu's don't create much of a change in lapotops (don't make much of an upgrade), unless it's something like a change from a single core Intel Centrino to an Intel Dual Core cpu.

If you do get an IBM, then a memory upgrade and hard drive upgrade may be a better idea. However, my old school had newer IBM's and they aren't that slow, they had tons of crud on 'em and still ran as fast as possible...
