I am running a Win98 SE on PII 400 using Abit BH6 motherboard. I recently acquired a Ricoh 1420C SCSI CD-R and an Adaptec AHA 1542CF SCSI controller. When the system boots up the AHA shows up fine then it selcts my CD-R, it's SCSI ID being set to 6 - they are the only SCSI devices I have in my system. When the Win98 starts I see neither the adapter nor the drive and I have tried countless times to Auto/manual detect either divice w/o any success. I also followed the directions from Adaptec web site and booted up in clean DOS and my adapter seems to work there... Any ideas?

Thank you for any input.

It is a resource problem if windows does not autodetect it and prompt for drivers.

Put the card in a different slot or disable a com port from bios/integrated periphals.

Other than that, the card could be bad.

Have you tried to disable the bios on the card via the jumpers?? You might want to try that and see if win98 will detect the card and drive then.

Or, you could make sure the jumpers are set correctly on the card, then use the configuration utility to set the card bios up properly.

Thank you for suggestions. Let me try disabling the com ports and then I'll see if I can move some stuff around =( I don't have an open slot in my system...

On my Hp4020, the SCSI Adapter and writer were not seen until I loaded my writer's software. I changed to a 2940u pci card and Win 98 sees it right away, wierd!!
