I just got all the approved parts for my atholn system. It works, it is stable, but sees only 64 of my 128 megs of Micron RAM.
I checked the RAM on another machine and it confirmed it really was a 128-meg chip. However Asus motherboard reports only 64 megs on boot-up (this is also what is later reported by Win 98 & Win NT4.0 (SP4)
Is there a CMOS setting or a jumper I need to correct? Or is it possible my MB is defective?
Pawel
Check your BIOS features for OS2/non OS2 and select non OS2. This will let your board recognize all your RAM.

Thanks Igor for the suggestion, but unfortunately this isn't it. My Bios is set for Non OS2 (Boot to OS2 >64MB --NO). I even changed it to "Yes" just to see, but it didn't make any difference...
The funny thing is, I tried no-name 128 meg sticks and they were tested as 128 megs (although the system was crashing often) -- so I ordered the Micron RAM approved by AMD -- now I have this nonsense!
Do you have/know Asus K7M and maybe have some other ideas? I appreciate your help.

A friend had this same prob with other K6-2 machine I got it to recognise by messing with the FSB and multiplier.
Sorry I couldn't be mre helpful.
This sounds like something you should be asking either Micron or ASUS about directly, especially since the RAM seems to show in other systems. I'd check with ASUS support first.

You mean there actually *IS* ASUS support?! So far I haven't been able to find it...

What are those? I can't find any reference in K7M manual...

Dude...it is entirely possible that you have a bad motherboard dimm slot. Try all of them if you haven't. Also, try another dimm if one is available. Yours could be bad (I have a 64M dimm that will only boot in one motherboard, but it used to work fine in my other PC...makes no sense except that it is really a bad dimm.
You might just have a fluke type problem in that your ram is just not compatible with your motherboard.

I have the same board...
If you read the manual carefully, it says you have to insert the ram IN ORDER, from DIMM1, DIMM2, DIMM3, meaning you can't have it in only 2, or only 3, or 1 and 3...
DIMM1 is the slot furthest from the SlotA.
Try that, hope that helps...
And on page 58, under Bios Setup, Advanced chipset Setup, it describes the CPU frequency selection function (100Mhz being the default)
I have mine at 105Mhz, but the bios reports it as 533; and when I have it at 100, 3dMark99 reports it at 504; go figure, huh? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Mine is also set on default 100, the CPU is 650 but NT reports it as 654...
I will have to update the bios once more and see if it will help.
BTW. my mem stick sits in the first slot, so this isn't it.
