Unfortunatly, not all PS/2 mice are created equal. Some models will work with an adapter, while other models won't.
Usually the 2 button PS/2 mice do not have a problem with the adapters.

you may want to check this out.. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q174/6/61.ASP?LNG=ENG&SA=PER check out under More info, it states you will need MS pn 68666 for serial adapter. that link is for intellimouse.
This link http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q248/8/13.asp?LNG=ENG&SA=PER is the min. sys requirements for that ball-less wonder. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Note it doesn't list serial comm ports as a available interface. Considered going USB??
The interface software may not work on serial ports no matter what.

If you have never used that serial port,
you may want to check your bios and make sure it is enabled.

I have a friend that has the exact same problem as we speak. He just went an bought a Microsoft Gray-Intelli-Laser-Mouse-Sensor thing, and since he has an AT PS/Mobo, he doesn't have USB (but he does have the form card addon) The mouse itself is USB and came with a P/S2 adapter. He then went and bought a P/S2 to serial adapter, but the software didn't recognize the mouse. I think Nathan G. is right. The software may not even recognize the mouse on a serial port no matter what.
