Microsoft prepares for Vista Service Pack 1 (http://www.dailytech.com/Vista+Service+Pack+1+Set+for+2H07+Release/article5820.htm)

Many consumers and businesses make the decision to stay away from new Windows releases until the first service pack becomes available. According to internal Microsoft emails, the first service pack for Windows Vista could come as early as this year.

I have recently gotten a new high-end workstation from work. I have installed Vista Business RTM and Microsoft has really made some dramatic improvements in speed since I first tested the beta version of Vista.

If you have a powerful computer with lots of RAM and a good video card, then Vista runs fast even with all the bells and whistles turned on.

I can hardly wait for more device drivers to come out for some of the older hardware so I can use this machine full time.

I recently tried the RTM ultimate version and I am sold. I love it.

It is just so simple to use! Networking is childs play. On XP I couldn't seem to get file or printer sharing without doing an online degree in networking. But vista is just fantastic!

It looks great as well.

But I do think that the 3-d flip feature is a conn. I really can't see what use there is for it....although it does look great.:)

Ordering my Academic edition upgrade of home premium of ebay just now.

On one PC the spec is:

2.8 P4C 800fsb
1GB PC3200
256MB X800pro
80GB HDD

And with the aero package on it runs wonderfully. Although I think the performance will be better with another 2 sticks of 512MB of RAM.

My other PC:

Athlong XP 2600+
1GB
9600 256MB graphics card

And it runs great as well!

It turns out that vista isn't the resource hog that everyone thought it would be :)

Does anyone think that more RAM will make any sort of significant increase in system performance?

Windows XP SP3 delayed to 2008 (http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=54)

I like the heck out of Vista. Still using RC2 cause I haven't had the time to install the final which everyone says is even better...

I am using RC2 and it is really good on a fast machine, I am waiting for the retail vers to come out before I buy it.

The only thing really stopping me from moving to Vista right at this moment is the Gaming concerns, namely poor driver support from AMD/Nvidia, backwards compatibility and DirectSound issues, if they fixed all of the above today, i'd be on Vista by tomorrow at the latest.

I downloaded vista drivers for my computer yesterday from the ati/amd website. I noticed my video card performance isn't up to scratch and low and behold they had the drivers!

I'm glad to hear that the final is better SRJ. I ordered my academic edition today :)

Have to wait till the 30th though :(

Yeah, but thats a bit like saying "i would buy this car, but it doesnt have any wheels".

Also bear in mind i havent got a project to entertain my mind at present (no decent games till March), so i would find the idea of battling against a problematic OS quite an entertaining one.

Again, i wouldnt read into the 18K much :x

I didn't see too much in Vista. Tried Vista from the first Beta launch, even RC2. Not enough of a real change for me. Except for all the additional fancy looking crud, that I turned off anyway.
Nope, I'm sticking with XP Pro for now. Unless I can get Vista for $59., like I did XP Pro when it first came out.
