Try this quick fix:

Search for the file called 'ShellIconCache' in the 'Windows' install directory. Delete it, and you may need to reboot after deleting it. Everything should then be OK. For some reason this file gets corrupted from time to time.

also, if you have tweakUI or similar program, you can repair all the icons under the repair tab. =-)

Hey mine are like that too but i got a question. If I delete that Shelliconcache file will it affect my system in any way? Would i have to reinstall that one file?
thanks

I like the tweakui suggestion the best -
To locate it, go to the www.microsoft.com/windows95 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows95) page and look for ms power toys. Tweakui is part of that package and is a free download.
Put it in it's own directory, and execute the one file you download. It's an executing zip file and will self-extract. Then look for the tweakui files and click on them until you turn up the one that opens a window asking if you want to add it to control panel - select yes, then you can open tweakui in control panel and adjust and repair a number of different things.

Also - just in case, I'd update your virus definitions and do a system virus sweep to be sure that's not it.

The shelliconcache file is rebuilt by Windows itself. It is not a file that would have to be reinstalled.

One thing about the TweakUI usage...if you have Win95, it is on the Win95 CD as TweakUI.INF, and searching for it will find it. Just right click the file and select install. Then reboot and it will be a icon inside the control panel window.

If you have Win98...do not use the Win95 version the above post point to. It will cause problems. There is a Win98 specific version out. Sorry, I don't have the link right now.

This is where to find it for 98:

Windows 98 CD-ROM in the Tools\Reskit\Powertoy folder.
