Compac 5204 and voodoo3/2000 3dfx card

I purchased a Voodoo 3 2000 accelerator card for my sons computer a presario 5204 and can not get the card to work on the computer. I have disabled the ati rage accelerator and installed the standard pci adapter as per the instructions but when we restart the computer we get nothing but black screen. We tried the card on a dell computer and it worked fine. Any ideas the compact service was of no help whatsoever.

I'm not sure on this particular Compaq but im pretty sure the Compaq dude at work will know, but I wont see him until Tuesday/Wednesday. If it doesnt get answered by then, I'll dig his brains for you.
Stupid thing to point out here but just make sure you plug the video cable into the new card, not the socket on the system board(I'm presuming it had on board graphics before?)
