Scanner link failure & software lock ups

I recently purchased a Maxtor 13gig diamondback HD & i/o Magic 8mb AGP video card. The installs were fine. BUT...ever since my Umax Astra 2000p Scanner will not link up. I've tried re-installing the scanner software & the Adobe Photodeluxe 3.0 Home edition that came with the scanner. every time I go to scan I get the prompt to test the scanner which ultimately tells me the scanner link failed. Umax sez it is conflicting with something, but I find No conflicts. When I installed the new HD I re-located the old Samsung HD to the secondary IDE. The Maxtor is split into Two even sectors as is the SAmsung. I did tweak the Bios to have the Scanner running on a different Irq setting. It worked , but all scan left a Bright blue streak down the center od the image. Bios is back to normal settings. Scanner worked fine in-line with my Canon bjc-4400. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I miss my scanner! P.S. I have removed the scanner from the system and I still have lock up problems with Adobe Photodeluxe, internet or computer will lock up if left idle. ???? SPECS-
