A friend has an Athlon64 on a Gigabyte GA-K8VT800M. Recently, someone (not me) installed a replacement CPU fan, and the plastic tab on the retainer plate that the hold down clips slip over broke off during installation or sometime after. I looked for a replacement socket 754 compatible fan that comes with a backplate, but found out the hard way that the bundled backplates only seem to be for Intel sockets. I've always built Intel systems (no prejudice against AMD, just never owned one).

Does anyone know of a 754 fan that comes with an Athlon64 form factor backplate; or better yet, a source of stock replacement retainer/backplates? One of the center tabs broke, it looks there are four more near the corners, one of those is missing too, so a fan with four clips (if one exists) won't help either. We tried superglue on the broken tab; I wasn't surprised that it didn't hold.

The very first Arctic cooler I bought for socket-754 came with an extra frame.
