This is the full version (not express) that comes with office 97...

Sometimes I can be working in Outlook, and bang, I'm hung. Now, I can still click the start button, and run any program from there, or click on any icon in my systray. No problem!

But, when I come back to Outlook, it's still frozen. Can't minimize, close, anything!

Any input is appreciated...

Do you think the update from MS for Office 97 would help? I'm a little leery of some of their "improving" updates, if you know what I mean.

Thanks so much...

Installing service release 1 and 2a will correct many Outlook issues...you should if you haven't yet.

Well, I tried the sr-1 and then sr-2. No help there.Tried toget the DCOM98 from MS, but you have to have their "subscription", which, of course, don't have.

Now, this is hanging up on my sister-in-law's machine, just like it did on mine, so I'm "AssUMing" (HA!) it's not just me and my machine.

Anyone have thatDCOM98? I'd sure appreciate acopy if you think it would help.

Thank you and

watch for that pesky Y2K bug! (especially you, Pickel!)

The most common cause of this behavior from OutLook is caused by one or more of the following:

-a damaged Personal folder
Remove the Personal Folders from your profile and to create a new Personal Folders file.

In Control Panel, open the Mail And Fax icon. (There may only be a Mail icon if fax wasn't installed.)

Under the Services tab, select your profile, and then Properties.

Select Personal Folders, and then click Remove.

Click Add, and in the "Available information services" box, click Personal Folders and OK to open the "Create/Open Personal Folders File" box.

In the File Name box, type a new personal store (*.pst) file name, and then click Open to open your new Personal Folders properties box.

Under the General tab, click OK to return to the Profile Properties box.

Click OK and Close to close all dialog boxes.

-a damaged Profile
{create a new profile and try to restart Outlook}

-a damaged Outlook Bar file
refer to this link (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q162/2/48.ASP) at MS KB.

-a damaged password list
Delete or rename your password list file. Usually located in the Windows folder with the name <Username>.pwl; the name you use to log on. After the file is deleted or renamed, restart Windows. The file is re-created automatically when you log on and enter your password. NOTE: If you are using a personal certificate, export it before renaming your .pwl file.

-the display driver
The first time Outlook starts, it tries to create the Outlook Bar. In some cases, the video driver may prevent Outlook from creating the Outlook Bar. Try working around this problem by doing one of the following:

Start your computer in Safe mode.

Reduce the resolution of your current driver to VGA, 16 colors.

Get a more recent driver.

Once Outlook has successfully started, quit Outlook, set your video display to the desired resolution and number of colors, and then try starting Outlook again.

-Missing, Damaged, or Outdated Msvcrt40.dll file
An recently removed or installed software on your computer, may leave a missing, damaged, or outdated Msvcrt40.dll file. Many programs change this file. Microsoft Visual C++ and all Exchange clients use this file.

-a Windows Startup Group issue
Remove all programs from the Windows Startup group and restart your computer. You may experience conflicts from other programs running at the same time that Outlook is starting. Once Outlook successfully starts the first time, you may be able to return to your original Startup group configuration with Outlook.

Go to the best source to fix them or maybe get a answer to any problem that I have found so far. See Slipstick Outlook and Exchange Solutions center (http://www.slipstick.com) which is address http://www.slipstick.com

It was rather stupid of me to not read your question carefully as I've responded as though the item was about Outlook Express.. However FYI at www.microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com) go to downloads, download center then search. DCOM 98 is a 1.2mb file. If ya go in this way they don't ask that you sign up.. least they didn't me .
