I've just been asked buy a friend to recommend what to buy for a new PC that he wants. He has about £1500 (UK) excluding VAT, can buy things trade, to spend.
I was thinking of AMD athlon of course but don't know much about Mobos for them. Any suggestions? Also graphics?
I know the current state of play of the market is not good for memory and stuff and i've tried to persuade him to wait and screw the ****ers too but he want the system now. So any suggestions on what would be the best would be appreciated

Abit BP6, duel 400 CPUs, that is my sugjestion, but for what he has, you could wait a month and get a duel slot a board with AMD Atlons.

Hard to recommend anything without knowing the intended usage! Gamers toy differs greatly from work machine.
What has to be included?
Monitor, printer, or scanner needed?
OS or software needed?
Anything else?
Add up the prices of the things you MUST buy, like case, keyboard, floppy, etc. Then add the things above. Subtract that from the total available before trying to pick the MB/CPU and video.
As far as the memory goes, put in a single 64mb stick & wait for the price to come down to add more.
What IS the conversion rate to US dollars?
And how do your local prices stack up compared to US?
