Have you tried to open the file with IE ? Right click the file and select Open with > choose Internet Explorer . If you have trouble , make sure the file is saved as an .xml file .

Also, MSN Messenger keeps a history of conversations , so you can later view the conversation .

Open MSN Messenger > Tools > Options >Messages tab > Message History . The directory where they are stored should be listed in the box . This all works fine as long as you have it set to save .

Hello Pink

Try opening it in EditPad Lite (http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html).

Were you using MSN Messenger ?

If so , please explain how you saved the file ? step by step ...

Using MSN Messenger 7.5 , these are the options I am able to perform :

*If select " save as " from the File menu in MSN Messenger , then it should save it as a .rtf file to the folder you saved to . You should get a popup message telling you this .

*If you have MSN Messenger set to save messages and you select "save" from the file menu it saves it to a log directory as 2 .xml files in

C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\My Documents\My Received Files\username_xxxxxxxx\History

You also have a shortcut to the messages from the sign on or message window , by selecting "view message history" from the File Menu . Or you should be able to open the .xml file with IE .

*If you used copy and paste from within the message to Notepad as a .txt , then notepad should open it fine.

yeah I'm using MSN Messenger
but i dont remember what i did exactly
I saved it in the first of the conversation..select " save as" from the file menu but I changed the type from "RTF Document" to "Text Document"

then I clicked "save" during the conversation and open the file that is saved put the file was with question marks??i said maybe coz the conversation box still open!

then I selected "save as " or "save" I'm not sure at the end of the conversation coz i thought that only the first sentences were saved so i did this final step..closed the msn then open the notepad file and discover the error

I saved it in the first of the conversation..select " save as" from the file menu but I changed the type from "RTF Document" to "Text Document"

If you "saved as" .rtf you can open it with Word ; as .txt with notepad. You can try renaming the file , and change the extention to .rtf and see if Word will open it correctly .

then I clicked "save" during the conversation and open the file that is saved put the file was with question marks??i said maybe coz the conversation box still open!

then I selected "save as " or "save" I'm not sure at the end of the conversation coz i thought that only the first sentences were saved so i did this final step..closed the msn then open the notepad file and discover the error

The "save" function doesn't work unless messages are set to be saved in the Tools options .

If you had handwriting enabled , that may explain the ????

You may want to ask the other party if they have messages saved .
