I had to format/reload my computer (so much for all the antivirus/spyware protection). After I reloaded Windows XP I downloaded/installed the XP powertoys. In the TweakUI utility I set it to log in automatically since I'm the only user and told it to not display my name at the login screen. Now when XP loads up, it still goes to the login screen but my username isn't there. It appears that it worked when I told it to not display my username but the part about loggin in automatically didn't take effect. Can anyone PLEASE provide me with any help so that I don't have to go through the whole process again?

Thanks in advance

Steve

run control userpasswords2 and set the default login account

I can't get into windows - I get to the login screen and it says to click on your username to start, but there are no usernames there to click on...

The only available option is to shut down.

I tried booting from the CD again, but that didn't get me anywhere.

try booting to safe mode and using the administrator account

Is it F8 to get to safe mode?

I didn't set up an administrator password when I re-installed; is there a default password for it?

Thanks for the help

yes f8 is to get to safe mode. by default, the admin password is blank if you didn't set one.

Worked like a champ - thanks for the advice.

It's a good thing there are people out there that are able to save us from ourselves!

Thanks again

NP. Yes, a lot of computer wounds are self-inflicted. :)
