ok I've finally moved all my data from c: drive to d http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.giffat32) and now that I'm under 2gb of data on c:, I've converted c: fat32 to fat16 and and drive e: is now converted to NTFS. this is done using partition magic. my win98se boot files are on c: drive but the installation of win98 is on d: .everything is fine but when I try to install NT on my NTFS partition the install program recognizes my partitions as:

c: 2040mb (fat)
d: 6000mb win95(fat32)
e: 2800mb win95(fat32)

I still have unallocated space on my Hardrive but NT won't let me create a partition. It really shouldn't matter since I partitioned e: as an NTFS partition using partition magic. why is it being recognized as win95(fat32). No surprise when I tried to install NT on drive e: and was informed that I couldn't. I'm pretty sure I can install NT boot files on c: and NT itself on e:\winnt. but it doesn't want to cooperate. thx http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. hope you had a good christmas and came away with lots of goodies. I apologize for the poor grammar but it's about 4 am and I'm tired.

I don't know a whole lot about dual/triple boot ,But this site could be of some interest .It is a while since I have been there but it could answer your question:

It has been a while since I did this, but if I remember correctly, you need to use NT to create the NTFS partition. You use the three NT installation disks, create an NT partition in unallocated space, then install NT in that partition. Something is screwey since I don't think windows should be able to recognize an NT partition. Perhaps you might want to use fdisk to get rid of drive E, create some empty space, start with the NT installation disks and create the partition there.

Sorry for being so vague, but it has been months since I did this.

FYI, once you have an ntfs partition, the only way you can get rid of it is to use the NT startup disks to reformat it as a FAT16 partition.

bmckay...your a little off...

fdisk from DOS6.2 up will get rid of any NTFS partition. The NTFS sometimes apprear as a "Non-DOS partition" which confuses most newbies.

Now, as for NT not installing on NTFS...what version of PM are you using? Is it actually NT4 NTFS? There are different NTFS systems...NT5/W2K uses NTFS5, and NT3.51 used an older version not compatible with 4.0. Your best bet is to remove the NTFS partition and replace it with a FAT 16 partition and install NT4 to it and convert it during the rest of the install and size it to what you want (it gives the option)

thx for the info. yeah I actually had to convert it to fat16 and use the nt installation prog to convert fat16 to ntfs and install it there. thx again

No, it will not. You will have to delete the directories manually.
