I have ran into a problem, I am getting a message of "Compatibility-mode paging reduces overall system performance" and "Drive C is using MS-DOS compatibility mode file system" I think these messages and my sudden lack of speed have to do with this which I found in device manager. my Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) is needs uopdated drivers. I cannot find any. Does anyone know what is going on??

Post the type of motherboard you have and the chipset. We probably can point you to the location where you can download the bus mastering drivers for that board.

I am sooo sorry, Here are some of the specs of the system I am running. I have a AMD k-6 400 running on a Spacewalker motherboard. I am running 112 megs of RAM, with a Voodoo 3 accelerator. Thanks !!

This will usually take care of your problem http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
This problem most often occurs when a motherboard is installed in a system that had Windows9x previously installed. The problem here is that when one upgrades their system with a “newer” motherboard, the drivers already installed for the previous motherboard’s IDE controller may be different than the IDE controller drivers of the new motherboard. Thus Windows95 compensates by using the “fail-safe” 16bit real mode drivers and you get exclamation marks by your hard disk controller icons in the systems manager.
The method by which you resolve the problem is as follows: (
1) Backup the registry files for Win9x (System.dat and User.dat)
(2) Use the Regedit program to modify the registry
(3) Locate the NOIDE entry down the following folder branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CURRENTCONTROLSET > SERVICES > VXD > IOS
(4) Click on the NOIDE entry on the right side of the regedit program and hit delete. (5) Confirm your deletion and exit the program.
(6) Reboot and Windows9x should aumatically redetect the protected mode drivers.

it sounds as though you just recently adopted this problem... Is that the case?
if so, then you likely have the correct drivers on your system.
Try this: first and foremost, go to the system control panel, and under 'Hardware Profiles' copy your existing profile to one named something like 'The way i had it before cyphen screwed up my system'
THEN try removing the dual IDE controller (you can't remove each controller individually ie primary/secondary as they are children of the dual ide ctrlr parent device)
then reboot and choose "original configuration" (not the backup copy you just made) and windows should automatically detect and install drivers for this. if it installs the wrong ones again and you're still having this prob you can try reinstalling the drivers for all the selected devices ie primary and secondary and dual ide ctrlr to standard bus mastering drivers. if none of this works (which sometimes it doesn't) you should be able to get drivers from your chipset maker ie VIA MVP, etc. this installation should automatically fix any such issues...
